Soybean Association Sponsors Research Scholarship at N.C. State

The North Carolina Soybean Producers Association announced a new scholarship for undergraduates in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and N.C. State University.  A signing ceremony was held by the association and N.C. State on January 12th at the Annual Commodities Conference in Durham, N.C.

Association Elects New Directors and Officers

The soybean association elected five new directors and re-elected six current directors.  The board elected Jimmy Thomas of Timberlake as president for 2012 and elected Bernard Lennon as vice president and Jeff Peed as secretary.

Extensive Crop Damage in Eastern N.C.

Hurricane Irene caused extensive damage to crops across much of eastern North Carolina.  High winds across a wide area and the slow movement of the storm over North Carolina contributed to wind damage on tobacco, corn and soybeans.

USDA Reports Soybean Condition Declines

USDA's weekly crop progress report from August 22 shows a decline in soybeans condition across the U.S., with relatively more soybeans rated as fair or poor condition.

Scientists Monitor Kudzu Bug

The new pest known as the Kudzu Bug is an exotic legume pest first found in the U.S. in Georgia in 2009.  In 2011, the pest has slowly spread through the North Carolina piedmont and is now appearing in coastal plain counties where it has been found on soybeans.
